Speaking Event At Wallington’s Literacy Night

Kimberly Scanlon's Speaking Event

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to read, Learning to Read is Ball, to a gymnasium full of parents and children at Gavlak Elementary School for the town of Wallington’s Annual Literacy Night.  Using an interactive read aloud style; I encouraged the group to participate. And, why not? Reading, especially when learning to read, should not be a solitary or passive experience.

The children actively participated by answering my questions (What do you think will happen next? Have you ever…?) and happily shouted out the rhymes while I waited in anticipation for them to complete a sentence with an appropriate word.

I was thrilled to participate in this fun, educational event. I was also pleased to visit my hometown of Wallington.

On Wednesday, June 13that 6:00pm I look forward to visiting Wallington’s Public Library to share information and strategies to facilitate early language development. This event is open to residents of Wallington AND non-residents too. If you have a toddler or preschooler who is just learning to talk, this discussion is for you.
